NOVEMBER 16: (Wednesday) TMI Baked Potato Night!
Everyone please bring something. Here's a sign up sheet for what to bring: Google Doc
We will be meeting at 6pm instead of our usual 7pm. This way we'll have time to eat and still do our devotional as well. If you can't make it at 6, come whenever you can!

NOVEMBER 17: (Thursday) WORSHIP TEAR DOWN
These are the people who are going to help tear down: Katie Wong, Kandice Gin, Krista Yee, Kaitlyn Joe, Lauren Chin, and Deanna Low.
We don't need to show up early because the stuff will already be there.

NOVEMBER 19: (Saturday) BLANKET MINISTRY
We're going to meet up at 10am to pass out blankets and food to the homeless people. I believe we're going to Guadalupe Park River. I'll have to confirm that.

ALSO ON THE 19TH: SMALL GROUP PLAID PARTY
It's going to be at Katy Perng's home in Fremont. It starts at 7pm. Rides will be provided at 6:15 at the ATMs by the student union. If you haven't paid the $5 fee yet, please do so asap.

Beast to Prince

Being a diehard Disney Classics fan, I came across this video and another one similar to it last year and thought about it again when I was writing my research paper on Disney animation. Just wanted to share cause I really like the symbolism, and it also shows how we can use our gifts (whatever that may be) to tell/demonstrate God's Word and love to everybody.

By the way, he was referring to 2 Corinthians 5:17(NKJV):

Sometimes you just talk really loud to cover it up! Not in this case...

Another funny video! But this time I was thinking about making a little analogy...

In this case, farts could be like sin.  Even if we try to cover it up, or hide it from the eyes of others, we are still sinning.  Thankfully, by the grace of God, He cleanses us from our sins!

"You forgave the iniquity of your people; you covered all their sin." Psalm 85:2 (ESV)

So, the next time you catch yourself trying to cover up or justify a wrongdoing, immediately ask God to forgive you.  We can't cover up our sins, but God can with His blood.

Galations 5

Hey everyone,

Who wants to join me in learning Galations 5? I've been trying to memorize it since the beginning of the semester, but I've only kind of memorized the first verse and the fruit of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). I think if we all keep each other accountable, it will be much easier. There are 25 verses in the whole chapter, so if we learn 2 verses each week, we should be able to finish it by Winter Break. If you guys want, we can double it up a couple of weeks so we aren't trying to memorize verses during finals week.

Here's a link to the NIV version of the passage. When I was comparing it to the ESV version, I felt it was easier to memorize, but feel free to memorize it in the ESV version if you would like.

The reason I want to memorize this chapter is because Paul tells us that we are free in Christ from our sins and we no longer have to be bound to our sinful ways or to meaningless religion that does not save. He shows explicitly what is sin, and also shows us how to lead a life in the spirit, which is the next step to spiritual growth. I think that these themes are important to remember as we continue to grow in our faith, so I figure if I/we learn this chapter, it will be able to remember the verses when we feel tempted, feel like we aren't growing, or need to remember what it means to have life in Christ.

Hey girls! How was your guys week/ weekend? 

I just wanted to say how excited I am that all of you girls are part of this small group! And now that we are starting accountability, it's time for more bonding time, closer relationships, and more fun adventures with you all! :D I hope you guys really take advantage of having a sister in Christ keep you accountable. If you have a goal, tell your partner so they can help keep you accountable! We also want accountability to be somewhere we can share all our burdens, worries or problems without judgement! Be willing to be open and transparent with your partner! :)

So how are your devotionals going this week? Have you guys stuck to your schedule? Have you realized how precious God's word is?

The Importance of His Word - Psalms 19:7-11

There are 6 main ways Scripture will affect your life:
God's word...
1. Transforms you - reviving the soul
2. Gives you wisdom - making wise the simple
3. Brings you joy - rejoicing the heart
4. Dispels the darkness - enlightening the eyes
5. Adds stability - enduring forever
6. Promises justice - altogether righteous

God's word should not be taken for granted! Remember "in keeping them there is great reward."

prayer request

hey girls, I have a prayer request! I have an interview coming up Thursday with PG&E for an Associate Engineering position! They just told me yesterday so that means i have less than a week to prep! o_0 Please pray for confidence as I step into a nervewracking situation where I potentially place my future in my interview's hands.  I have trusted till now that God is preparing me for the job that He wants, but sometimes its hard to see that light amidst the tunnel sometimes. Pray for Trust.


Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us... Ephesians 3:20

Small Groups: JOY

This week we went over joy. The passage we went through was James 1:2-8.


We defined joy as something God gives us that is eternal and cannot be taken away from us. Joy does not always mean that we will always be happy, smiling, or positive. Sometimes we will be sad and depressed, but having faith in God's plan for us gives us joy. We are also able to have joy because of what God has done for us, He gave his son for us so that we wouldn't have to spend eternity in Hell [Habakkuk 3:18]. We also talked about the difference between happiness and joy: happiness is temporary and circumstantial while joy is eternal. We also saw the difference between emotional joy and spiritual joy. Emotional joy is something that everyone has because it's similar to happiness. But spiritual joy can only come from God. During our trials, we should remember that God is not the cause us of falling into temptation. It is because we gave us God's truth for the world's lie that we have a sinful nature [Romans 1:25]. Another thing we must remember is that God will never give us more than we can handle [1 Corinthians 10:13]. Anything we go through, God will always provide a way out. So because God will never give us too much, we must stand fast in our trials.


Here's the equation:
Unwavering faith + our reliance on God + putting our faith in God's perfect plan = joy


Lastly, remember that God is always the perfect comfort and will always provide the perfect comfort.
IN: Do you have faith in God's plan for you? IF YES: How are you going to maintain that faith and joy? IF NO: What changes are you going to make in your life? What is preventing you from finding joy?
OUT: Are we willing to be a source of comfort? Are you willing to comfort friends? neighbors? strangers? Are we willing to go out of our comfort zone to comfort people?


I hope you really apply this to your lives and challenge yourselves to do what you know God desires of us.

Deanna! thx for setting up the blog..yayy!!

After spending the first night with you girls yesterday, I was literally so joyful to be embraced by such an awesome group of young ladies that have such an energy and passion to pursue Christ.  Whether you were someone that has heard it all before and grew up in the church to a newer believer, it was such a delight to see the common bond of Jesus bring us all together...and that we genuinely enjoyed each other's company.  After sharing last night about my own unfulfillment at my church community, you can probably understand that having a group of people sharing a common desire (even within church) is not always a guarantee...so you guys bring a renewed sense of joy and reminder of what true community and communion with each other as sisters looks like!

THANK YOU KATIE for doing a great job! And remember...we wouldn't be Pulse if it wasn't 'awkward' sometimes ;)

So this morning I read another entry in The Love Dare book.  As a challenge to myself and the Bf (maybe you guys will meet him later haha), we are taking on the challenge of performing these Love Dares to those around us...friends, church, enemies, family...

Today's challenge was: Love is Thoughtful.

"Love thinks. Its not a mindless feeling that rides on waves of emotion and falls asleep mentally.  It keeps busy in thought, knowing that loving thoughts precede loving actions.  But too often we become frustrated or angry because we lack the patience to deal with others or are tired and easily frustrated.  You speak harshly now and determine later if you should have said it.  But the thoughtful nature of love teaches you to engage your mind before engaging your lips. Love thinks before speaking. It filters words through a grid of truth and kindness."  *hmm reminds me of the vs...being slow to speak and slow to become angry. James 1:19*

DARE= Contact a friend sometime during the next few days, maybe one you have neglected to speak to bc they annoy or frustrate you.  Have no agenda other than asking how he or she is doing , how you can pray for them and if there is anything you can do for them.

Small Groups: Patience

Today was AWESOME we had our first ever devotional as TMI! Katie lead us in a devotional about patience. The passage we went over was James 5:7-11. We learned how impatient we are and how our impatience is a form of unbelief.


For those who were unable to make it to tonight's small group, or if you just want to be reminded of what we talk about, here is a quick recap.:
Inward Application:

1. We must have patience through our suffering as we wait for Christ's return.
2. Stand firm as believers as you go through trials; Don't grumble, but persevere together as you wait for Christ's return.

We then referenced John Piper's article, "In God's Place, at God's Pace" and "The Battle Against Unbelief." (handout, email Katie Wong for a copy). Through this article we discovered that being impatient translates to us being faithless. When we are unfaithful, we are basically telling God that we don't trust that he has everything all planned out for us.

Outward Application:

• What can we take in and change inward and how can they express it outward?
• What is one spiritual discipline you can apply in your life that will help you gain patience and stand firm when you're facing trials or doubt? (e.g. reading the Word, prayer, accountability, practicing the fruit of the Spirit, being still, jounal prayers, etc.)

HOMEWORK! (yes you have homework)

The Mirrored Image

Why The Mirrored Image? God is the light in the darkness. He is the one who draws us out of our sin into his mercy. So the reason TMI is because we as Christians are supposed to reflect His light onto the rest of the world that has chosen to reject God. My desire for everyone is that we become mirrors that reflect God's characteristics and desires from us onto others. My prayer is that our lives will reflect God's will through everything we do, say, and think.


I pray that through this blog, we will be able to held accountable for our actions, words, and thoughts. I'm counting on everyone who reads this to encourage and guide us through our walks with Christ!
